It Finally Happened! We’re Back!!!!!!!

Thanks to modern medicine, BananaShip is back on the water! With some social distancing in the boat mind you. We’re a bit rusty, out of sync and overly sore, but what a terrific feeling getting the band back together again. Practices will be held twice a week (Monday, Wednesday at 7:30pm, Max 10 in a boat… so ample land training time *cough*). And as usual, more photos to celebrate.

PSA – Do yourselves and everyone a huge favour, and get vaccinated! We’ll be a full boat no time.

New Season, New Shirts, New Bling 🥇🥈

What a way to start the 2019 season at Montreal Challenge! It was a pouring start to the weekend on Saturday, but after the clouds cleared, we couldn’t ask for better sunshine.

For the 2019 Challenge, BananaShip managed to snag, not one, but two medals! Earning 2nd Place in the 500m distance, and then powering on to Gold in the 200m Final. Amazing vibes all around, and awesome way for our new paddlers to get their feet wet! Also a big thank you to our friends who stepped in to paddle last weekend, you’re the real MVPs! So grateful to have our wonderful BANANA family.

Our bananas looked even more terrific than ever in their new jerseys! Yes! We got new shirts! More slicker, more streamlined, more .. actually, they just look damn good. Rawdon 2017 – Femmes Fatales Strikes Gold!

What an achievement by our Femmes Fatales! Placing convincingly 1st in each of the qualifiers and taking home the Gold at Rawdon. And with that, for many of our padders, a terrific finish for 2017. You earned it girls! And for the rest of us, final stop – Quebec Cup.

A Challenging Challenge!

BananaShip’s first race of the season, the renamed Montreal International Dragon Boat Challenge & Festival (throwback to old MIDBRF days), is done and dusted.

This has been a challenging season so far, with Toronto unexpectedly postponed, and more than half our paddlers new to the sport – BananaShip earned a spot in the 2000m final B division. Big shout out to all our padders! There’s definitely potential, so let’s work towards an even bigger splash at Rawdon!

Fusion and Girl Power at Rawdon

Rawdon, that annual event signalling the end of season and remaining days of summer. To that effect, BananaShip did things a little different. Our ladies revived an old classic – “Phil’s Femmes Fatales” – and took home the bronze! And the guys fusion danced with the boys from McGill Dragon Boat Z (Yes, that was a Dragon Ball reference) – forming Banana Ball Z! How did our combined boat do? Placing 4th in the Grand Open final, just needs a few polishing in the hyperbolic time chamber. And with that, our 2016 comes to a close. Check back once in awhile for updates – there’s still the end of season festivities.

Silver at Montreal Challenge 2016

In case you missed last weekend, BananaShip took 2nd in Mixed Division C at this year’s Montreal International Dragon Boat Challenge! Picture finish – with just 0.14 seconds away from the lead; motivation for Rawdon.
